AGENDA

7:30 – 8:00 – Continental Breakfast

8:00 – 8:15 – Welcome

8:20 – 8:50 – Opening Presentation: Federal Tax Reform and What It Means for Georgia

  • Jonathan Williams, Chief Economist and Vice President for the Center for State Fiscal Reform at the American Legislative Exchange Council

9:00 – 10:15 Session One: Success Across the State: Examples of Health Care Transformation in Georgia

Rising health care costs pose a huge threat to federal, state and local governments; make health care increasingly unaffordable for the middle class, and make our businesses less competitive nationally and internationally. Georgia is fortunate to have many businesses throughout the state that are national models for improving quality and lowering health care costs. With the State of Georgia providing care for about one-quarter of the population, these businesses’ experiences and lessons learned are invaluable as lawmakers seek solutions.

  • Moderator: Don BettsEmployersLikeMe
  • Barbara Barrett, Langdale Industries (Valdosta, GA)
  • Lisa Evans, Southwire (Carrollton, GA)
  • Kim Johns, Mohawk (Calhoun, GA)

10:20 – 11:50 Session Two: Laboratories of Democracy: Health Care Transformation through Federal Waivers

Within the Affordable Care Act is the State Innovation Waiver program, a mechanism that gives states great authority to restructure their health care markets. Georgia’s own Tom Price heads the agency that awards those waivers. Health care providers and policy leaders share their vision of how Georgia could lead the transformation of health care in the United States.

12:00 – 1:15 Lunch

1:30 – 3:00 Session Three: Education Transformation: Unleashing the Teacherpreneurs and Edupreneurs

What is holding back innovation in education? How do we free teachers and school leaders to prepare our children for a world dominated by artificial intelligence? How do we make higher education more affordable? How does Georgia create the policies and ecosystems necessary to provide quality education to every corner of Georgia?

  • Moderator: Mike Dudgeon, Chief Technology Officer – Hi-Rez Studios, and former Vice Chair of the Georgia House of Representatives Education Committee
  • Vicki Davis, a teacher and blogger in Camilla, Georgia, recently named to the 2017 Edtech 20, a ranking of the top 20 global edtech influencers, and the Forbes’ list of Top Five Edupreneur Voices
