It’s Friday!

– “As I approach the gates of heaven; St. Peter I will tell; One more soldier reporting sir; I’ve served my time in hell. – Mark Anthony Gresswell
– “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.” – Mark Twain, Notebook, 1904

Health care
– The perfect storm: At least 13 million Americans could be joining the Medicaid rolls if the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passes Supreme Court muster. But a growing number of physicians say they can no longer afford to accept new Medicaid patients. A new survey by Jackson Healthcare found that because of declining reimbursements, 36 percent of physicians say they are not accepting new Medicaid patients. Twenty-six percent don’t see Medicaid patients. But 66 percent of dermatologists, 64 percent of endocrinologists, 57 percent of physical medicine and rehabilitations and 53 percent of adult psychiatrists say they can’t take on more Medicaid patients.
Education
– Choice promotes quality: An editorial in The Washington Post urges Congress and the Obama Administration to restore Washington, D.C.’s school voucher program to avoid “denying hundreds of underprivileged D.C. students the chance for a quality education.” The nonprofit organization that adminsiters the program of federally funded school vouchers held two open houses to solicit interest from low-income families for the upcoming school year. The response was overwhelming; nearly 1,200 new applications were received.
