Atlanta – Please join the Georgia Public Policy Foundation in Macon on Thursday, July 10 to celebrate Friedman Legacy for Freedom Day, which marks the birthday of Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman.
The Policy Briefing Luncheon takes place at noon at Macon’s Idle Hour Country Club and is keynoted by Georgia’s foremost education expert, Dr. Ben Scafidi, a professor of economics and director of the Economics of Education Policy Center at Georgia College & State University. Dr. Scafidi is a Senior Fellow with the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice and the Georgia Public Policy Foundation and is the director of education policy for the Georgia Community Foundation Inc. His research has focused on education and urban policy. Previously, he was chair of the Georgia Charter Schools Commission, education policy advisor to Gov. Sonny Perdue, on the staff of both of Gov. Roy Barnes’ Education Reform Study Commissions, and an expert witness for the state of Georgia in school funding litigation. The Milledgeville, Ga., resident received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia and his B.A. in economics from the University of Notre Dame.
Friedman Legacy for Freedom Day is an annual international celebration marking the birthday of the late Milton Friedman, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics and a longtime champion of free market causes and school choice. Friedman’s birthday would have been July 31. This year, the seventh annual event, more than 10,000 people around the world will gather to recognize his life, legacy and ideas.
