Atlanta – You are invited to attend a June 27 noon Policy Briefing Luncheon and Book Forum, “The Road to Freedom,” at the Georgian Club in Cobb County, hosted by the Georgia Public Policy Foundation and keynoted by Arthur C. Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute.
The event registration fee of $50 includes a copy of “The Road to Freedom,” Mr. Brooks’ brand-new book in which he leads the fight for cultural renewal in America based on free enterprise. The book is described as the blueprint for defending free enterprise against the powerful forces of big government. Register by Monday, June 25, online at http://tinyurl.com/y27h3dk.
Mr. Brooks has conducted research on the connections between culture, politics and economic life, and has published hundreds of articles and nine books on subjects ranging from the economics of the arts to military operations research. In his new book, he maintains that only free enterprise encourages and allows each of us to define our destiny and earn our success. Only free enterprise encourages true fairness based on merit and opportunity. And free enterprise is the only system that can lift up the vulnerable and those who have fallen on hard times by the millions – by rewarding entrepreneurship and encouraging charity. These three principles – earned success, true fairness and helping those in need – are the foundation of the moral case for free enterprise.
Until January 1, 2009, when he became AEI president, Mr. Brooks was the Louis A. Bantle Professor of Business and Government Policy at Syracuse University, where his research focused on the intersections of economics, entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Like his areas of study, Mr. Brooks’ path through academia was not a conventional one. At 19, he dropped out of college to pursue a career as a professional French hornist. Mr. Brooks went on to tour with the guitarist Charlie Byrd and then became associate principal French hornist with the City Orchestra of Barcelona. In his late twenties, he returned to college and studied economics, math and languages, eventually earning a master’s degree in economics and a Ph. D in public policy. After a stint at the RAND Corporation he spent a decade as a professor of economics and entrepreneurship at Georgia State University and Syracuse.
The American Enterprise Institute (www.AEI.org) is a private, nonpartisan, not-for-profit institution founded in 1943 and dedicated to research and education on issues of government, politics, economics and social welfare. Based in Washington, D.C., AEI is committed to expanding liberty, increasing individual opportunity and strengthening free enterprise.
